Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai, in a briefing, discussed the demonstrations against the government’s judicial reform and stated that “We will not tolerate vandalism and the blocking of main roads which disturbs traffic.”
According to Shabtai, “This week, we had a few rare incidents in which officers and civilians were hurt, we will learn from this. The democratic right to protest has its limits, and we expect that they are respected.”
On Saturday evening, National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir announced he was on his way to the police command center in Tel Aviv, where he will hold a briefing with the Commissioner ahead of the weekly demonstration in the city.
The demonstration organizers responded to Ben-Gvir stating: “We don’t tolerate terrorists at our demonstrations. We expect the Commissioner to ignore his presence and protect the freedom to protest and mainly those who protect Israeli democracy.”
During the day on Saturday, demonstrations against the judicial reform were held across the country for the sixth week in a row. At the demonstration on Kaplan Street in Tel Aviv, former minister Limor Livnat and Prof. Yuval Noah Harari are scheduled to speak. The demonstration will begin with a performance by Gali Atari and Allal, who will sing the protest song “Ein Li Eretz Aharet” (I Have No Other Land).
The Haifa demonstration will be addressed by MK Merav Michaeli, former Supreme Court Judge Ayala Procaccia, and Attorney Gabi Laski. MK Avigdor Liberman is scheduled to address the demonstration in Ashdod. Opposition Leader Yair Lapid will speak in Herzliya at 7:45.
